Jon Blackwell, 63, a devoted carpenter and lifelong resident of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 15, 1961, Jon was a man of deep integrity, unmatched craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. He spent his life building not only homes but also strong relationships and cherished memories that will endure for generations.
Jon discovered his passion for carpentry at a young age, inspired by his father’s workshop. Over the years, his skillful hands and creative mind transformed countless projects into works of art. Whether constructing custom furniture or restoring historic homes, Jon poured his heart into every piece, earning the respect of clients and colleagues alike. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple things—fishing at Gray’s Lake, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending Sunday afternoons grilling with his family. Jon was known for his hearty laugh, warm demeanor, and ability to make everyone feel at home.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Blackwell; his children, Michael (Emily) Blackwell and Sarah (James) Carter; his grandchildren, Lily, Noah, and Ava; and his loyal golden retriever, Max. Jon’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and a life well-lived. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Community Church in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, an organization Jon passionately supported.
